What Is Rake?
Online poker rooms generate their income via rake.
Rake is the money the poker room takes out of each pot.
In general poker rooms will take between 3-5% out of each pot with a max of $3.
This may seem like a lot but a majority of poker rooms have separate rake schedules for different blind levels and the number of players in the hand is also an important factor when determining how much rake is taken out.
There is not an industry standard with rake so it will vary from room to room.
For the examples below I will use PKR’s rake system to cover different scenarios in which the amount of rake taken out will vary depending on a number of variables which will determine how much Poker Rakeback Online you will get.
Rake At Fixed Limit Tables
Any FL table at PKR with blinds $.10/.20 and below will be raked $.01 for every $.10 in the pot with a maximum of $.50.
The cap rake will continue to increase as the blinds get higher along with the intervals in which the rake is taken out.
For instance if you are playing at either a $.50/$1.00 or $1.00/$2.00 fixed limit table at PKR there is a maximum rake of $1.00 and $.25 will be taken out for every $5.00 in the pot.
For stakes above $1/$2 PKR uses the number of players at the table as a factor as well. The less players in a hand equals less rake being taken out of the pot (see below).
2-3 Players – The maximum rake taken out for FL tables with blinds of $2/$4 and above is $1.00.
4 Players – The maximum rake taken out for FL tables with blinds of $2/$4 and above is $2.00.
5+ Players – The maximum rake taken out for FL tables with blinds of $2/$4 and above is $3.00.
Rake At Pot And No Limit Tables
The rake system is a little different at PKR for PL and NL tables.
For blinds $.05/$.10 and below PKR will take out $.01 for ever $.10 in the pot just like at the FL tables but because these pots can get much higher the maximum rake taken out is also increased.
In this case the cap rake is determined by the number of players in the hand (see below).
2 players – Max rake is $.25
3 players – Max rake is $.50
4 players – Max rake is $1.00
5+ players – Max rake is $2.00
As the blinds increase so will the max rake which caps at $3 and the intervals in which it is taken out.
For instance if you are playing $2/$4 or above PKR will take out $.05 for every dollar in the pot.
Almost every poker room including PKR has a ‘no flop, no drop” policy.
This means that if the hand ends before the flop is dealt no rake will be taken out of the pot.
PKR’s rake policy is fairly standard throughout the industry.
